Update 4: Whale sharks, bull sharks, 90 degree days

last month living in Mexico

Life in La Ventana has been HOT!  When I say hot, I mean 95 by nine in the morning. Thank goodness we have air conditioning and the cool sea to cool down.

This month has been slow + fast all at the same time. From the best whale shark encounter of my life to a dream dive with bull sharks. Along with filming my next YouTube video.

How I ended up being the keeper to these three trouble makers I’ll never know. Well, if I had to guess I would say with treats, lots of treats. And, love.

Dogs really are the best and it was such an honor to spoil Doug and Lucy for all these months.

Is it a whale or shark? It is a filter feeding shark and the largest fish in the entire world.

Did you know that whale sharks reach sexual maturity when they are 8 meters in length. For males that is around 30 years of age and for females it can be up to 50 years.

Despite protections they are endangered. With all the threats to the oceans + marine life it is impossible for them to sustain populations.

In 1995, the small fishing town was turned into a National Park. One decade later, its exceptionally rich biodiversity bounced back from fishing and it was rightfully declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Sadly, with the growth of commercial fishing, 14 years later it was added to the list of world heritage in danger.

The local community is fighting for tourism to survive and fund the fight to protect the sea. The most famous dive site is the shipwreck. The bull sharks have claimed this as their domain. Best visibility is in October and November. Highly recommend a dive with Arturo at Cabo Pulmo Travel.

As I wrap up my time in La Ventana, I have started filming for my next YouTube video: Life in La Ventana. With a secret side goal to locate the B E S T margarita in town.

The winner will be noted on my website when I publish my La Ventana travel guide.

June was full of see you laters and goodbyes. The town is quiet as ever. Two other cars drive down our road. Somedays, zero.

Porter and I have spent most of the month editing photos and videos.

We happily attended the monthly community clean up and have started to prepare for our next adventure where Porter and I will camp from
