It is common to hitchhike.

No. As a tourist you cannot rent or drive a friend’s car without a Bermuda drivers license.

electric vehicle

There are a couple of popular options of electric vehicles to rent.

Twizzy and Rugged Rental

There are 12 charging stations on the island. However, only 3 are public and the rest are located at hotels.

rent a scooter

hi from ashley driving a scooter in Bermuda

In terms of getting around a scooter is by far the fastest and easiest way to see the entire island.

If you are comfortable driving on two wheels, renting a scooter is the best option. The prices are reasonable, especially if you are riding doubles and splitting the cost.

The scooters get great gas milage and you can find full service gas stations all around the island. They will even add oil to your bike should it need it.

e-bike

Pedego ebike in Bermuda

No matter what form of transportation you choose for the duration of your trip, I highly recommend renting an e-bike for at least half a day.

My personal recommendation: rent an e-bike from Pedego in St. George’s as early as you can. Explore the historic areas and then enjoy a seaside brunch.

by water !

Now, this is not for every day transportation.

That being said, the best way to see any island is by water. H20 Watersports is my favorite rental company on island.

Anyway you want to explore by water they have you covered. You can rent anything from a stand up paddle board to a boat or Hobie cat!

public bus, hitchhike, or walk

Taking the bus is an option, but you must know the bus is beyond unreliable. They are often on strike for days with no notice.

Hitchhiking is common and safe. However, most people are on island time and late for an event so you might have to try for a long time before catching a ride.

Walking is always an option. The railway trails are a great opportunity to explore the nature side of the island. Front street, St. George’s, and Dockyard are all walkable areas. If you do not rent any type of transportation, I recommend getting the phone number of a few taxi drivers and getting transportation to and from these locations and then explore by foot.
