Where to get a Polynesian Tattoo

Where to get a Polynesian Tattoo Moorea French Polynesia

If you want to know where to get a Polynesian tattoo while on the island of Moorea, you have come to the right place. In this post, I will share a little background, fun facts, how the tattoo design works, and most importantly where to go to get a one of a kind tattoo.

Tahitian tatau is made up of symbols based on the four elements of nature: air, earth, fire, and water. From these four elements symbols expand further to represent one’s social rank and genealogy to roles in society, stability, travel, wisdom, and more.

Fun fact: The word tattoo originates from the Tahitian word tatau.

I cannot recommend a better artist other than Lolo. He is the best.

How does it work? You will meet Lolo in his home, discuss where you would like your tattoo, the size, share your story, and of course price.

As you share your story, Lolo will start to draw your story (your tattoo) onto your body. There is no standard pattern applied or a sketch made on an iPad.

Each tattoo is one of a kind, a unique piece of art.

your story + your body.

Once your tattoo is complete, make sure to ask Lolo (or whomever your artist is) for a video to explain your tattoo.

When I say each tattoo is one of a kind, it feels like a massive understatement. Your tattoo is not just unique to the curves of your body.

It is your story, who you are, your roots, who and what you love, your struggles in life, and your wins.

When I left corporate health care to travel full time, French Polynesia was my first destination.

The Tahitian way of life restored my faith in humanity. Most importantly, it reset my heart and soul back to what really matters in life.

Every year, I return for a few months to explore new islands and see friends. In total, I have spent one year living on the islands.

With each trip back to Polynesia, I will continue to update and share more information here for you.
